We recently connected with Maria Myraine Yap and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria Myraine, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I attribute my resilience to several key influences and experiences in my life. Growing up, I faced various challenges as an immigrant child that required me to adapt and persevere. My parents, who both worked tirelessly to provide for our family, instilled in me a strong work ethic and the importance of determination. Watching their dedication taught me to push through obstacles and stay focused on my goals.
Additionally, participating in competitive sports during my school years played a significant role in building my resilience. The discipline, teamwork, and persistence required to excel in athletics taught me how to handle setbacks and bounce back stronger. These experiences showed me that failure is not a stopping point but a stepping stone to success. Also, during my senior year of high school, I endured a near-fatal car accident that took nearly a year of recovery and a list of injuries that I still manage to this day.
